Whilst I have made my career in Business and Finance, I have been a life-long singer and composer, typically of unaccompanied choral works.

After 4 years of wonderful music-making and listening in the late ‘70s, centred around University College, Oxford, I have continued to sing for a variety of choirs – symphonic to chamber. But for the last 28 years, the Joyful Company of Singers under the musical direction of Peter Broadbent, has been my main focus.  As the website says, “One of Europe’s most prominent chamber choirs, the Joyful Company of Singers is renowned for its virtuosity and intensity of spirit, as well as for an astoundingly wide repertoire, ranging from the 16th Century to the present day”.

I joined in 1991, just after it won the inaugural Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition. This was for an amazing trip to St. Petersburg and I have since sung in concerts and toured with the JCS in dozens of festivals and competitions all over Europe and to the US, including winning the Llangollen Choir of the World Competition. I have loved (with some exceptions…) the many premieres of new works which the choir champions, though my compositional style remains more traditional.

I am also a Trustee of Tenebrae, directed by Nigel Short, generally acclaimed as one of the greatest professional choirs in the world. "Phenomenal” (The Times); "devastatingly beautiful" (Gramophone Magazine"); "Choral Music doesn't get more magnificent than this" (Classic FM); the first ever ensemble to be multi-nominated for the BBC Music Awards....you get the picture. Tenebrae’s bi-line is Passion and Precision, and this sums up their unique sound. They celebrate their 15th anniversary this year, striving to deliver (as they put it) “dramatic programming, flawless performance, unforgettable experience”.
